Haus Of GaGa

Last night, CH and I had the mind-blowing pleasure of seeing Lady GaGa perform at Chicago’s House of Blues, and it was worth all of the $73 I spent buying the two tickets on Ebay [plus the $15.20 I had to spend to express mail the tickets to my house after idiotically forgetting them in Missouri when packing for spring break].
Although I wanted to arrive an hour before the doors opened, scheduling conflicts and slow public transportation caused us to get there at exactly 6PM, when they started letting people in. The line was long but not horrendously so, and I was surprised to see that there were many who were older than us — I’m not sure who GaGa’s target audience is but I did expect to see more teenagers. The majority of the attendees were definitely either women or gay men, although there were a number of guys accompanying their girlfriends/wives or parents chaperoning a group of girls. There seemed to be a few hetero guys with other hetero guys, and maybe even some middle-aged folk without kids, but I couldn’t be sure.
Unfortunately, security took CH’s camera at the door so I don’t have any pictures, although we weren’t close enough to get any good ones — we stood right at the back of the mosh pit area on the steps so that we could see over the heads of all the tall dudes standing near the front [no fair!].

Season: Battle Dimension [wtf? Does that even make sense?]
Episode: Hot Springing A Leak [heh, I’ve always loved their pun-filled titles]
This is quite literally the only thing on Cartoon Network other than Adult Swim that I can still stand to watch. Jeez, this channel went downhill.
The opening sequence is just not as inspiring as it used to be. And where did Misty go? Who’s this new girl? Whoever she is, she just walked all over her so-called “best friend.” Jerkface. Oh, her name is Dawn.
Ugh, the hot springs girl has 3 Swinubs. Never really liked that Pokémon.
Ash’s voice sounds slightly different, and a visit to IMDB tells me that the quite a few of the voice actors changed in 2006. Ash, however, is still voiced by a female. Why…did they do that?
The writing kind of sucks.
Holy crap! Brock’s voice got DEEP. Wonder if he grew out of his perpetual pervy-ness too.
Team Rocket is still as fruity as ever. Did their little song change?! Or was it just for this episode..?
Pikachu has a new move — Irontail! But it totally failed. What a disappointment. Surprisingly, Team Rocket didn’t even seem interested in stealing it. The good guys vs. bad guys battle was so uninteresting that I pretty much missed it when I looked down at the cheesecake I was eating.
The conflict is resolved already? What?? That was so lame!
Ooh, a tag-team battle. Boys vs. girls! The battle moves certainly have gotten a visual makeover.
The girls get their inspiration & tactics from their elementary school experience of beating up the playground bully. LOL.
Oh…my gosh. The battle ends in a TIE, making this episode even LAMER than it was before.
Now everybody is chilling in the hot springs. MAN there are a ton of Pokémon I don’t recognize anymore.
Okay…and now back to What Not To Wear. You’ve disappointed me today, Pokémon. But I’m still excited for Pokémon Platinum [which was released yesterday, apparently. If only I had a DS]!
The Greatest Practical Joke, They Said

On a whim, I went to go see Watchmen last Friday with some friends. I figured that I could use a good action movie even though I had no idea what Watchmen was about; I had never heard of the comic before the movie.
The film was better than I expected, especially seeing as how I had no expectations at all. It was a relatively complex movie, full of ideas of romance, violence, politics and ethics. The opening montage was rather confusing, but the rest of the movie unfolded in an understandable manner.
One question I had dealt with the origin of this group of costumed vigilantes. Dr. Manhattan’s superpowered history was duly revealed, but I wasn’t clear on whether the others actually had some kind of superior physical powers or if they were simply really good at fighting. And Rorschach’s mask – how does it move? The last question is kind of irrelevent in a world where being trapped in a science experiment can turn one into a shiny blue demi-god, but still, I wondered.

The more I watch Pushing Daisies, the more I fall in love with Lee Pace.

[Hmmm, he has thick eyebrows. Like J. Coincidence.]
He has very sensitive eyes, and is absolutely adorable as the Piemaker. There are rumors that he prefers men over women but I won’t believe anything unless he says it himself.
When I saw the trailer for The Fall somewhere online last year, I was completely drawn in. I am very much attracted to aesthetically appealing movies such as Memoirs of a Geisha and Hero, and The Fall did not disappoint. It was visually stunning, and the soundtrack, coupled with minimal dialogue, added to the beauty of the film. Another bonus is the gratuitous amount of bare, muscular male bodies. Delicious.
On the topic of Lee Pace, one way of knowing whether I’m completely over the relationship is seeing when I’ll be able to watch Pushing Daisies again.
I started watching the show a few weeks after it began, after I had spent the afternoon with JY, who was absolutely raving about it. I had seen the commercials for the show on ABC, but I didn’t even know what the phrase “pushing daisies” meant and was not interested in adding another show to my lineup. JY is a very persuasive woman, however, so after going home, I went online and watched the first episode. And then proceeded to watch the next three episodes consecutively because it was that good.
I told J about it and pressured him to watch, which he did eventually. He liked it, but not as much as I did.
Usually, I despise cheesy romances. Pushing Daisies, however, holds a certain charm in its unique characters and clever dialogue that doesn’t grow old. The forbidden romance between Ned and Chuck was also faintly familiar to me. I’ve been too busy to watch any episodes for this entire semester, and though I’ve wasted much idle time recently, my appetite for Pushing Daisies has waned. I simply don’t think I’ll be able to stomach the cute romantic nature of the show for a long while.
The fact that this season is the last of Pushing Daisies is nothing short of tragic. Why must everything I love be taken from me?! Hopefully a movie is in the works. In the meantime, I plan to watch all of Lee Pace’s movies to fill the void Pushing Daisies has left. I love his acting.
